feat(minimax): add M3.1 Flash text defaults and reasoning replay - #529
octo-patch wants to merge 16 commits into
Conversation
Reviewer's GuideThis PR adds MiniMax as an OpenAI-compatible text provider, wires it into provider discovery and default selection through MINIMAX_API_KEY/MINIMAX_BASE_URL, supports global and China endpoints, and supplies MiniMax-M3/MiniMax-M2.7 model defaults. **MiniMax key sent to attacker host**
When a caller who controls `generateText` options supplies `provider: 'minimax'` and an attacker-controlled `baseUrl`, while `MINIMAX_API_KEY` is configured, `generateText` can resolve `MINIMAX_API_KEY` while accepting a caller-supplied `baseUrl`; the spread passes that URL to `OpenAIProvider`, whose requests send the key in the Authorization header, exposing the credential to the caller's host.
Do not combine an untrusted `baseUrl` with the server's MiniMax key; restrict URLs to trusted MiniMax endpoints or require caller-owned credentials for custom hosts.

**MiniMax costs break budget handling**
When a MiniMax call returns usage or runs under a `SpendBudget`, miniMax inherits OpenAI pricing, which has no MiniMax rates, so `calculateCost`, `estimateCallCostUSD`, and `costOfUsageUSD` return no cost. Callers receive usage without reported cost, budgets reject unpriced calls by default, and cost-limited budgets do not count MiniMax spend.
Add MiniMax pricing support to the cost calculation and budget pricing paths.

<issue_to_address>
**MiniMax models disappear from discovery**
When the MiniMax `/models` response contains normal IDs such as `MiniMax-M3` or `MiniMax-M2.7`, `MiniMaxProvider` inherits `OpenAIProvider.refreshAvailableModels`, which filters out MiniMax IDs, leaving the model cache empty. Listings and model-info lookups omit MiniMax models, concurrent lookups repeat `/models` requests, and routing can fall back to the wrong provider.
Override the model refresh/filtering for MiniMax so its model IDs are cached and exposed.

<issue_to_address>
**AgentOS turns target OpenAI**
When an application uses the AgentOS/GMI defaults with `MINIMAX_API_KEY` set and no OpenAI provider, `createAgentOSConfig` still gives GMI the explicit defaults `openai` and `gpt-4o`; with only MiniMax configured, GMI routes its default turns to an unavailable OpenAI provider and the turn fails instead of using MiniMax.
Derive GMI's default provider and model from the configured default provider, including MiniMax.

<issue_to_address>
**Default provider differs by entry point**
When both `MINIMAX_API_KEY` and `OLLAMA_BASE_URL` are set without OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Requesty credentials, both MiniMax and Ollama are marked default, so `AIModelProviderManager.initialize` selects MiniMax first, while direct API auto-detection checks Ollama first. Users get different providers depending on the entry point.
Ensure only the intended provider is marked default, consistently with direct API auto-detection.

<issue_to_address>
**MiniMax models disappear from discovery**
When miniMax’s `/models` response contains its text model IDs, such as `MiniMax-M3` or `MiniMax-M2.7`, `MiniMaxProvider` inherits OpenAI’s model refresh and pricing logic: the refresh filters out MiniMax model IDs, and the pricing resolver consults OpenAI-only prices. The provider therefore exposes no MiniMax models to discovery and returns no calculated usage cost for MiniMax calls.
Add MiniMax-aware model discovery and pricing rather than relying on OpenAI-specific filtering and price data.

…eys per route, the GMI default and error mapping A MiniMax key with OLLAMA_BASE_URL set, or with the claude CLI on PATH, auto-detects Ollama or the CLI for text, though the documented order puts API keys first; image detection keeps MiniMax after the other image providers. The query router defaults to OpenAI with an empty key when the MiniMax key is the only one set, and an explicit MiniMax route sends the OpenAI key when one is also set. The GMI default under a MiniMax-only configuration and the inherited error mapping (401, 429 with Retry-After, a body that is not JSON) are pinned as they stand.
… each query router route its own provider's key Text auto-detection checks MINIMAX_API_KEY right after REQUESTY_API_KEY, before the CLI binaries and OLLAMA_BASE_URL, as the documented order puts API keys first; image detection keeps MiniMax after the other image providers, so the probe ahead is scoped to text. The getting-started, high-level API and CLI provider pages list it there. The query router defaults its classifier and generator to MiniMax and MiniMax-M3.1-Flash when the MiniMax key is the only one set, after every other key as the provider manager and auto-detection rank it. A route to a provider other than OpenAI takes that provider's own key variable, or none, and no URL from the router, so generateText resolves its credentials and endpoint and another vendor's key or Ollama's URL never reaches it. An OpenAI route keeps its fallback to the OpenRouter key and URL.

… MiniMax's embedding refusal A MiniMax key alone must leave the router's embeddings on OpenAI, so an embedding key a caller gives for the default text-embedding-3-small reaches OpenAI instead of a MiniMax provider. An embedding provider other than OpenAI takes its own key variable, so an OpenAI key never reaches Gemini or MiniMax. MiniMax publishes no embedding model, so its provider refuses an embedding request before any HTTP request is made.
… an embedding provider its own key MiniMax publishes no embedding model, so a MiniMax key alone leaves the router's default embedding provider on openai: an embedding key a caller gives for the default text-embedding-3-small reaches OpenAI, and without one the router finds no embedding key and stays on keyword retrieval. An embedding provider other than OpenAI that has a key variable of its own takes that key, or none, as the classifier and generator routes do, so an OpenAI key is never sent to Gemini or MiniMax. An OpenAI embedding provider, and one without a key variable such as Ollama, keeps the scan of the provider keys. The MiniMax provider refuses an embedding request before any HTTP request, so no key travels to an endpoint MiniMax does not publish. The class documentation names its endpoint, its default model and the refusal. The query router pages describe each route's key and the embedding fallback, and the high-level API page says the MiniMax provider refuses embeddings.

…er of another vendor The router's apiKey configures the classifier and the generator. With MINIMAX_API_KEY alone they default to MiniMax while embeddings default to OpenAI, so a MiniMax key given as apiKey must not reach the OpenAI embedding provider. …r the classifier's or the generator's provider The router's apiKey and baseUrl configure the classifier and the generator. Embeddings now take them only when they use one of those providers, so with MINIMAX_API_KEY alone a MiniMax key given as apiKey no longer reaches the OpenAI embedding provider that MiniMax-only routers default to; embeddings stay on keyword retrieval with no key of their own. …om the query router With GEMINI_API_KEY and OPENROUTER_API_KEY set and no OpenAI key, a Gemini embedding provider must get no base URL from the router, never OpenRouter's compatibility URL, which belongs to an OpenAI embedding provider on the OpenRouter key; a second case pins that one.
…L from the query router The OpenRouter compatibility URL the router falls back to belongs to an OpenAI embedding provider on the OpenRouter key. Any other embedding provider, unless the router's own baseUrl applies to it as the classifier's or the generator's provider, now gets no URL and uses its own endpoint, as the classifier and generator routes do, so a Gemini key is never paired with OpenRouter's URL. Classify MiniMax text models before resolving image defaults
When a host pins the newly documented text model via setDefaultProvider({ provider: 'minimax', model: 'MiniMax-M3.1-Flash', apiKey }) and later calls generateImage() without overrides, globalModelForTask() only recognizes families in CHAT_MODEL_FAMILY (which omits MiniMax), so it retains this text model instead of selecting the adjacent image-01 default; MiniMaxImageProvider then posts MiniMax-M3.1-Flash to /image_generation and the image call fails. Add MiniMax to chat-model detection and pin this global-default cross-task path.

Include MiniMax in the automatic planner rotations
When missions offer MiniMax alongside any existing listed provider (for example, ['minimax', 'openai']), every automatic strategy passes a preferred array that still omits minimax; pickProvider() filters against that array, so MiniMax is never in the rotation despite this new defaults entry. Fresh evidence at the final head is the unchanged best/cheapest/balanced preference arrays below this entry; include MiniMax in those arrays and cover a mixed-provider mission.

Replace inherited model-endpoint health probes
The class now explicitly suppresses model-API catalog access, but it still inherits OpenAIProvider.checkHealth() and its auth-key recheck probe, which issue GET /models/<default> and GET /models respectively. In deployments that call checkOverallHealth() this reports a functioning MiniMax chat endpoint unhealthy, and in multi-key pools an auth-failed key cannot be restored via the endpoint this integration says is unavailable; use a MiniMax-supported lightweight chat probe (and expose/override the pool probe) instead.

Use the MiniMax key-pool strategy when initializing
When MINIMAX_API_KEY contains multiple keys and the host sets AGENTOS_KEY_POOL_STRATEGY_MINIMAX=ordered, this delegation enters OpenAIProvider.initialize() without a strategy, so that method reads keyPoolStrategyFromEnv('openai'); the MiniMax-specific setting is ignored and traffic round-robins (or follows the OpenAI setting) instead. Resolve the default strategy with the minimax id before delegating, as the other OpenAI-compatible providers do.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
…Max in the planner rotations, and its own key pool strategy A global default that names MiniMax-M3.1-Flash must still make images with image-01, never post the chat model to /image_generation. A mission that offers MiniMax beside OpenAI must give MiniMax a node under the best, cheapest and balanced strategies. A MiniMax key list must follow AGENTOS_KEY_POOL_STRATEGY_MINIMAX, not the OpenAI variable.
Reason: MiniMax text requests need a current default and catalog, and Flash tool continuations must retain separate reasoning content.
Summary
Add the MiniMax text provider to provider registration, environment configuration, and high-level API resolution. Ordinary text and inexpensive-task defaults now select
MiniMax-M3.1-Flash; the current catalog contains Flash first andMiniMax-M3, with image-input/tool capabilities. Explicit saved, legacy, and custom model IDs remain valid request selections. Global and China endpoint overrides remain available.Preserve
reasoning_contentthrough non-streaming and streaming responses, high-level tool loops, and transcript replay. Map supported Flash effort controls and reject disabled thinking, unsupported effort,service_tier, andreasoning_split: false. Keep M3 disabled/adaptive thinking behavior. Use the provider's documented catalog without relying on inherited model discovery. Align MiniMax GMI and mission-planning defaults. Image generation remainsimage-01.Linked issues

How this was verified
At commit
16f0792996f43eb2a5900ae99572a192d3286719:git diff --checkpassed. No live paid inference was performed.The exact-head upstream CI workflow passed, including dependency installation, build, package-export checks, lint, semantic type checking, tests with coverage, browser tests, the gated test batch, and the release dry run. The initial rollout's test fixture typing error was corrected in the final commit, and this final run passed type checking.
The separate Published source foundation workflow failed before build in its version-selection step with empty selected-version variables. This result is recorded as a remaining CI limitation; no unchanged-base reproduction or all-checks-green claim is made. Full local setup/build remained paused below the workspace's 110 GiB disk threshold; remote CI supplied the full validation. Existing automatic review feedback about broader provider-priority routing, query expansion, and cost metering is not claimed resolved by this rollout update.
Migration notes
No saved model IDs are rewritten. Omitted MiniMax text models now resolve to Flash; specify
MiniMax-M3or another saved/custom ID explicitly to retain that selection.Checklist
