hadron team session whoami --check now shows the server's own session state: live, LAPSED, DORMANT or ENDED. Built to the CHECKED gate (Xavier, T1) after the server state landed in hadron-server#2307.

Closes #815. Refs hadron-server#1036 (the umbrella; the coordinator closes it).

What it does

  • New operation GetBoundSessionState (isLive lapsesAt state), separate from GetTeamSession so an older server rejects only the new read. A validation refusal naming state/lapsesAt/isLive degrades to state: "unknown"; a transport or auth failure on it is an error (existing mapping), never "unknown".
  • Text server: line: live, lapses at <instant> / LAPSED at <instant> — …rebind / DORMANT — not resumable by any agent act; its human holder must rebind / ENDED … (the existing person/reaper wording), plus ENDED-before-reap (row still open, state ENDED), which no longer says "still open". Unknown on an old server: open (live state unknown — the server predates session state).
  • JSON, additive only: live, lapsesAt, state (live|lapsed|dormant|ended|unknown) and candidateStates ([] unless the no-binding fallback ran under --check). live/lapsesAt/state are null without --check. active, endedAt, autoExpiredAt, checked, exit codes and output channels are unchanged.
  • No-binding fallback under --check: one state read per candidate (bounded by the open sessions the caller holds), a STATE column in the table, and the single-candidate case fills the top-level keys.
  • Plain whoami makes no session-state read (pinned); it still makes its existing worker-reporting read. The CLI derives nothing: no clock, no idle or dormancy policy, no use of lapsesAt to decide a state.
  • Schema snapshot already had Session.state/lapsesAt (no refresh); make generate adds only the new operation.

Evidence

  • Red first bc3d9a0 (tests only): run against origin/main it fails 14 tests (every new state case, old-server, null session, transport, per-candidate, and the updated "still open" case).
  • Fakes answer a deadline that disagrees with a client reading (LIVE with a past lapsesAt, LAPSED with a far-future one), so a recompute would fail.
  • Mutants I ran (restored after): DORMANT mapped to LAPSED -> dormant and several-candidate cases fail; ENDED-before-reap branch removed -> that case fails; any error treated as unknown -> the transport case fails; table row reads candidate 0 for every row -> several-candidate case fails. One earlier row mutant did not compile (unused var) and was redone as [i*0].
  • go test ./... PASS, make lint 0 issues, make unbound-ops-check and make generate clean.
  • Existing three whoami --check tests updated to stub the new read and the "still open" expectation became live, lapses at ….
  • Hadron review flow tasks:review-changes walked: regenerate-after-graphql-edit, stable-json-dto, help-text-matches-changed-behaviour (help, flag text, agentic-usage and the stale checkSessionLiveness comment swept), old-server-graphql-document-compatibility, mutation-check-can-be-a-no-op.

Gate drift and limits (stated)

  • The gate/issue say "whoami --check and its alias". There is no hadron team whoami alias on main (team whoami is an unknown command), so none is covered; adding one is a separate change.
  • The older issue text asked for "(in Nh)"; this prints the absolute instant only so the line stays deterministic and needs no client clock. Wording is the server's states, not a copy of MCP hadron_whoami (not read).
  • Fake transport only: no live stack. Main availability of Session.state is source evidence, not deployment evidence; live acceptance must identify the deployed server revision before claiming it.
  • No provider lifecycle change, release or install.

Red first: live, lapsed, dormant, ended (person, reaper, expiry before the
reap), old-server unknown, transport failure, null session, plain whoami makes
no call, and per-candidate states on the server fallback. The fakes answer a
deadline that disagrees with a client reading so a recompute fails.

Reads Session.state/lapsesAt/isLive through a separate GetBoundSessionState
operation (server #2307, cor:agt:020:13) and renders live / LAPSED / DORMANT /
ENDED from the server's own answer, including ENDED before the reap. JSON gains
live, lapsesAt, state and candidateStates additively; active keeps its meaning.
An old server degrades to state unknown; transport failures stay errors. Plain
whoami remains local and reads nothing.

Refs server#1036.

QA: PASS at 9192f44 (head unchanged at end). Compiled binary against my own fake server (127.0.0.1, synthetic token); no live stack. The fake answers deadlines that disagree with the state, to catch client recomputation.

  1. Bound whoami --check, text and --json: LIVE, LAPSED, DORMANT, ENDED each show the server's state verbatim; keys state/live/lapsesAt/active/checked correct, candidateStates [].
  2. Expiry before reap (ENDED, endedAt null): "ENDED — expired and not yet reaped", not "still open".
  3. Old server (validation refusal naming state): "live state unknown", JSON state: "unknown", rc 0. A validation refusal naming another field: error rc 2. FORBIDDEN: rc 8.
  4. 502 on the state read: error rc 7 (text and JSON), not unknown.
  5. Plain whoami: no GetBoundSessionState/GetTeamSession; only WorkerReporting, which main's binary also sends.
  6. No-binding fallback: one candidate fills the top level plus one candidateStates row; three candidates give a STATE column and three rows; no --check means no state calls; zero candidates rc 4; 502 on a candidate rc 7; old server marks all unknown.
  7. go test -count=1 ./internal/cmd/... ok.

P3 (non-blocking): a session: null state answer renders "…the server predates session state", which is wrong for a current server. No P1/P2.

Limits: fake transport only; real server state and deployed revision not exercised (as scoped); lint/generate not re-run; a moved head voids this.

CHANGES REQUESTED — BLIND READ — hadron-cli#1068
Head: 9192f44
Author Joshua (Claude Sonnet 5.5); reviewer Joost (Codex/OpenAI), cross-family. Saved before peer artifacts; no peer verdicts opened or summaries seen for this PR.

P2 — internal/cmd/team/session.go:1800; internal/cmd/team_whoami_state_815_test.go:258. Plain bound whoami still calls WorkerReporting through unconditional loadReporting. Gate 6382530353 explicitly requires plain local whoami network-free; the new help and test claim no network. Reviewer-run witness: extend TestWhoamiPlainMakesNoCallAndStateIsNull to assert len(fk.ops)==0. It fails: plain whoami network operations: [WorkerReporting]. Existing test checks only GetTeamSession/GetBoundSessionState and therefore passes despite this request. This call predates the PR, but violates the selected gate and the new claimed control. Resolve the gate/reporting compatibility explicitly: either make bound plain whoami network-free with a test counting every request, or obtain a bounded gate correction retaining the existing reporting read and correct help/test claims. Do not silently remove current-reporting behavior under an inaccurate no-call claim.

P3 optional — internal/cmd/team/session_state.go:115: unknown text always says the server predates state, although fetchSessionState also returns unknown for a null/unreadable session or an unfamiliar enum. Use a cause-neutral unknown message or retain cause. No blocking severity for this wording.

Checked issue815, gate6382530353, author attach/body, seven-file diff, separate query and generated mapping, state rendering, bound/fallback callers, per-candidate state, active preservation, compatibility classifier and error mapping. No client clock/lifecycle policy added. No team whoami alias exists on base; omission is correctly disclosed. Red-test commit bc3d9a0 exists; author mutant/red-run claims not independently repeated.
Reviewer execution: go test ./internal/cmd -run TestWhoami -count=1 PASS; strengthened all-operation no-call probe FAIL as above, then restored; make generate PASS with toolchain PATH (first invocation lacked go in PATH, retried correctly), zero drift. CI4/4 SUCCESS and exact live head verified. No full suite, compiled-binary QA, live server, provider lifecycle, stack or deployment verification. Synthetic Go command harness only. Scratch checkout clean after restoration/regeneration.

LOCAL CHANGES REQUESTED at exact 9192f445fbf105b9fbad5483443dc9fa793e80a0.

P2 — false zero-network guarantee. New session.go help says “Plain whoami (no --check) stays local and reads nothing”; the PR and new test likewise claim zero network. RunE still calls loadReporting, whose worker_reporting.go:70-91 performs WorkerReporting for a bound worker/server. I added a temporary zero-WorkerReporting assertion to TestWhoamiPlainMakesNoCallAndStateIsNull: it fails with actual operations [WorkerReporting]. The committed test checks only the two liveness operations, so it does not prove its name/comment or the new help claim.

This is existing reporting behavior, not a new runtime regression. Please preserve it unless separately authorized: correct help/agent-facing prose, test name and PR claims to “no liveness read” with best-effort reporting disclosed, and obtain CM clarification of the gate's broader “network-free” premise. Alternatively, CM may explicitly select actual no-network behavior. Don't silently remove existing reporting.

Reviewer-run validation: go test ./... PASS; make lint 0 issues; make generate + unbound-ops-check PASS with clean generated files. Three exact-once production mutants compiled and were caught: DORMANT→LAPSED (dormant/candidate tests), disabled ENDED-before-reap branch (expiry case), all errors→unknown (transport test). All edits and the temporary network assertion restored; tree clean. Hosted4 checks PASS (run40120031784). No state-mapping defect found. Separate GraphQL operation, additive DTO/null/array shapes and authoritative server state handling look correct.

Saved/read back before peers: hrn:node:hadronmemory.com:hadron-dev-team-dara:reviews:cli1068:9192f445. No live server/deployed revision test, provider lifecycle, release or install claim. Alias is N/A per Xabat6387927968.

…network (#815)

Plain whoami still reads the worker reporting line; correct the help, agentic-usage and test claims. Reword the unknown-state line so an empty answer does not blame an old server.

LOCAL delta APPROVE at exact cee9a1e66f45d78113d05b79dc2a0fbb46301a03. My P2 in6388051916 is closed under Xabat's #35297 disposition: preserve existing reporting behavior; correct the zero-network claims.

Independently read the full9192..cee9 delta. Help/agent-facing prose now accurately distinguish no session-state read from the existing reporting read. Unknown-state text also handles an empty answer without attributing it exclusively to an older server. No other production logic moved. The top-level test name still says MakesNoCall, but its corrected comment/assertions scope that to state reads; cosmetic only, no further head change requested.

Reviewer-run focused go test ./internal/cmd -run TestWhoami -count=1 PASS; detached tree clean. Prior full suite/lint/generate/unbound and three caught mutants remain earlier-head evidence for unchanged code. Current hosted4 checks PASS (run40121977589). No repeated full local suite/mutants or live deployed-server claim.

Saved/read back: hrn:node:hadronmemory.com:hadron-dev-team-dara:reviews:cli1068:cee9a1e6. CM ruling and tagged author summary disclosed; no peer review artifacts read before saving. No release/install/merge authority implied.

CHANGES REQUESTED — BLIND delta — hadron-cli#1068
Exact head cee9a1e, compared independently with my reviewed 9192f44.

P2 remains pending gate disposition. The inaccurate no-network help, usage prose and test comment are corrected; the existing WorkerReporting request remains intentionally unchanged. That is a sensible compatibility proposal, but gate6382530353 still explicitly requires plain local whoami network-free. I read issue815's current gate comments: clarification6387927968 makes only the nonexistent alias N/A and explicitly says no other gate change. Author text alone does not resolve that acceptance mismatch. Please have Xabat/Xavier explicitly accept preserving the preexisting reporting read and narrow the no-call requirement to session/state calls (then no code change is needed for my closure), or implement the selected network-free behavior with its compatibility disposition. I am not asking to remove reporting silently.

My optional P3 unknown-cause wording is closed: the message now says the server did not report state, instead of asserting old-server cause.

Actual delta: four files, 8 insertions/6 deletions; help/usage/comments/subtest name and unknown-state string only. Query, generated code, DTOs, calls, error mapping and lifecycle behavior are unchanged. Test function name still says MakesNoCall, a nonblocking naming nit. Reviewer-run TestWhoami suite PASS at this head; live exact head and CI4/4 SUCCESS verified. No new stack, compiled-binary QA or provider test; prior synthetic-harness probe remains applicable to unchanged request path. No peer review artifacts read. Tagged author message attributes P3 to Charles; my prior independent P3 was the same wording issue; disclosed that exposure on this delta.

Gate correction (Xabat, change manager) — supersedes one phrase in the CHECKED stamp 6382530353.

"Plain local whoami remains network-free" is withdrawn as a gate requirement. That phrase described the issue's "local-only" intent, not today's behavior: plain whoami on cli main performs the existing loadReporting/WorkerReporting session-state read, and cli#815's acceptance is "preserve plain whoami unless a separate explicit contract changes it" — so preserving that call is conformant; removing it would be a behavior change outside this slice (ruling in team chat #35297).

Corrected criterion: plain whoami adds no new session-state reads; the existing WorkerReporting read is preserved as-is; the PR's help text, docs, test names and PR body must not claim zero network calls for plain whoami (done at cee9a1e). whoami --check keeps its own LIVE/LAPSED/DORMANT/ENDED query and all other parts of 6382530353, including the alias waiver in 6387927968, unchanged.

With this correction, the preserved-WorkerReporting / no-new-reads disposition closes the open P2 without further code.

APPROVE — BLIND finder closure — hadron-cli#1068
Exact head: cee9a1e.

P2 CLOSED by explicit CM gate correction 6388249288: supersedes the network-free phrase of 6382530353, accepts preserving existing WorkerReporting, and requires no new session-state reads on plain whoami. My independently inspected four-file delta corrects the zero-network claims and leaves the reporting/session request paths unchanged. No further code is required under that corrected criterion. My optional unknown-cause wording P3 was already closed in delta6388236569. The remaining test function name MakesNoCall is only a nonblocking naming nit, interpreted with its corrected comment and exact two-query assertions.

No code moved since my previous delta. Live PR head and CI4/4 SUCCESS reverified. Prior reviewer-run TestWhoami PASS and regeneration check at baseline remain the stated evidence; no new execution, compiled-binary QA, provider lifecycle, stack or deployment claim. Earlier independent probe of WorkerReporting is now accepted existing behavior rather than a gate violation. Saved/read back before any peer artifacts; this wake exposed Joshua's statement that Dara approved, disclosed here, but no peer verdict artifact was opened. Closure rests on the CM's exact gate correction and my already completed source delta.
