Summary

The Go SDK, go get webhooks.cc/go, ported from the TypeScript SDK with the same scope as the Python SDK. Standard library only.

  • webhookscc (packages/sdk-go):
    • Client: endpoints, captured requests (WaitFor, WaitForAll, search, paging, replay, clear) and a Subscribe stream you range over, with reconnects, idle detection and resume-after-last-request.
    • Email: EmailQuery, ExtractCode and ExtractLink.
    • Forwarding: secrets.
    • Signing: SendTo and BuildRequest sign for 34 providers.
    • Helpers: matchers, CaptureDuring and CaptureEmailDuring.
    • Idiom: context.Context and time.Duration throughout, and errors match sentinels with errors.Is.
    • Redirects: sends never follow them, even when the caller's http.Client would.
  • verify: signature checks for 32 providers and for what webhooks.cc forwards, with no client or API key needed. For PayPal, the certificate is downloaded from the URL rebuilt from the checked parse, and redirects are followed by hand with the same check.
  • whktest: Client(t), skipped without WHK_API_KEY, and Endpoint(t, client), deleted with t.Cleanup.
  • Conformance: passes every vector in signing.json, verify.json, forwarding.json and matchers.json. Go takes time.Duration, so durations.json does not apply; the conformance README and AGENTS.md say so.

Import path. The module lives in a subfolder, so its versions are tags packages/sdk-go/v<version>.

  • The /go route: apps/web/app/go/[[...path]]/route.ts serves the go-import tag on ?go-get=1 for /go and every package path below it. It uses the subdirectory field that Go 1.25 added; older go commands get the module through the module proxy.
  • Browsers: on a package path they go to the docs. A plain /go keeps its old redirect to /, and the redirect now skips go-get lookups.

Web 0.42.3:

  • /docs/sdk/go;
  • a Go track on the changelog, with a test keeping GO_SDK_VERSION equal to Version in doc.go;
  • the install page and the docs nav.

CI:

  • on Go 1.25 and stable: gofmt, vet, staticcheck (stable only) and go test -race;
  • a CodeQL job for Go;
  • sdk-go-release.yml: on a packages/sdk-go/v* tag it checks the tag against Version, tests, and has the module proxy fetch the version, which needs the /go route live.

Release order

  1. Merge.
  2. Deploy, so webhooks.cc/go?go-get=1 is served.
  3. Tag packages/sdk-go/v0.1.0.

No migration.

Test plan

  • go vet, staticcheck and go test -race ./... pass:
    • all four conformance files;
    • client tests against a fake API, covering errors, retries, timeouts, waits, redirects, replay, the stream (rotation, repeats, idle, deadlines, breaking out of the loop) and email;
    • 93 sign-then-verify round trips;
    • PayPal URL bypasses and redirects;
    • the provider lists compared with templates.ts.
  • Live against the local stack, with a throwaway dev user since deleted. Everything worked:
    • whktest, plain and signed sends, the latter verified by the server and locally;
    • the stream;
    • a test email with its code and link;
    • replay, search, count, paging, forwarding secret rotation and clear;
    • usage, 401 and 404, CaptureDuring and CaptureEmailDuring;
    • the skip without a key.
  • Locally, /go?go-get=1 and /go/verify?go-get=1 serve the tag, /go still goes to /, /go/verify goes to the docs, and the docs page, changelog, install page and sitemap render.
  • Web: typecheck, lint, 791 unit tests.

The Go SDK's wait helpers can time out and miss requests that were captured when the client clock runs ahead of the server. CaptureDuring can also fail and delete its endpoint on one transient server error. Fix these before merging; the remaining findings are minor.

CodeQL on #539: X-RateLimit-Limit and -Remaining were parsed as 64-bit
numbers and converted to int unchecked. Counts and Retry-After are now
parsed as 32-bit numbers (anything larger reads as absent), and
X-RateLimit-Reset stays 64-bit.

Limit the SSE line length.

ReadString('\n') has no size limit. A line with no terminating newline grows without bound in memory. The same applies to s.data at Line 62, which grows for as long as the server sends data: lines without a blank line. The idle timer does not help here. Any line or keepalive byte resets it.

Read lines with a cap, for example 1 MiB. Return an error when a line exceeds the cap. The caller then reconnects or ends the stream.

♻️ Proposed fix
-		line, err := s.reader.ReadString('\n')
+		line, err := s.readLine()

Add this helper and constant to the file:

const maxSSELineBytes = 1 << 20

var errSSELineTooLong = errors.New("webhooks.cc: stream line too long")

// readLine reads up to and including '\n', failing if the line exceeds maxSSELineBytes.
func (s *sseReader) readLine() (string, error) {
	var buf []byte
	for {
		chunk, err := s.reader.ReadSlice('\n')
		buf = append(buf, chunk...)
		if len(buf) > maxSSELineBytes {
			return "", errSSELineTooLong
		}
		if err == bufio.ErrBufferFull {
			continue
		}
		return string(buf), err
	}
}

Add "errors" to the imports. Apply a similar cap to the total size of s.data per event.

Based on learnings: enforce a maximum line length when parsing SSE streams so an unterminated line cannot grow the read buffer without bound.

Replace the unbounded line read through s.reader.ReadString in the SSE parsing
flow with a bounded read that returns an error when a line exceeds a defined
maximum. Also cap the accumulated s.data size per event and return an error when
it exceeds that limit.

Move the duplicated form and UTF-8 decoders into one internal package.

formDecode, percentDecode, decodeUTF8 and maximalSubpart repeat the logic of formParams, formDecode, decodeUTF8 and maximalSubpart in packages/sdk-go/verify/text.go (lines 65-146). Request building and signature verification must decode Twilio form bodies the same way, or signed requests stop verifying. Two copies can drift apart. The duplication has already started to diverge in form: helpers.go uses unhex, and text.go uses isHex with strconv.ParseUint. Move one copy into a shared internal package, such as internal/sigutil or a new internal/webtext, and call it from both packages.

- 195:
Move the duplicated form and UTF-8 decoding logic into one shared internal
package, then update the request-building helpers in helpers.go and the
verification helpers in text.go to use it. Share form decoding, percent
decoding, and malformed UTF-8 handling so both paths preserve identical decoding
behavior; remove the redundant implementations.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

CaptureDuring gives up on the first temporary poll error, unlike collect.

Any error from Requests.List makes CaptureDuring return at once, including a 502, a 503, a 429 or a network error. collect in requests.go treats the same errors as temporary and polls again. The WaitFor tests rely on that: "a server error does not end the wait". With the current code, one temporary 5xx in the middle of a capture fails the run. The temporary endpoint is then deleted, so the captured requests are lost.

Reuse collect so both wait paths handle errors the same way. Pass since from endpoint.CreatedAt, as CaptureEmailDuring does.

Update CaptureDuring to use collect for polling Requests.List, passing
endpoint.CreatedAt as the since value and preserving the remaining timeout, poll
interval, match function, and requested count. Propagate collect’s result so
temporary polling errors are handled consistently with the other wait path.

Not changing this here, for parity. captureDuring in the TypeScript and Python SDKs also returns on the first list error. Moving CaptureDuring onto the wait loop, with since taken from the endpoint's createdAt, is already on the list of changes to make in all SDKs together.

@kroqdotdev Understood. Keeping the current behavior for SDK parity is reasonable for this PR. The polling concern remains a deferred improvement, not a completed fix.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Retries can repeat non-idempotent POST calls such as Endpoints.Create.

When WithRetry is on, api retries every method after any network error or TimeoutError. It also retries every status in RetryOn, including 500, 502, 503 and 504. A timeout or a 5xx on POST /endpoints does not prove that the server did nothing. The server can create the endpoint before the response is lost, and the retry then creates a second endpoint. The caller never receives the first slug, so it cannot delete that endpoint. The orphan counts against the account and also leaks from WithTemporaryEndpoint and CaptureDuring.

Limit transport-error and 5xx retries to idempotent methods. A 429 is safe to retry for any method, because the server rejected the request before processing it.

Not changing this here, for parity. Retries are opt-in (MaxAttempts defaults to 1), and the TypeScript reference and the Python SDK retry every method in the same way. Limiting transport-error and 5xx retries to idempotent methods is a good change, but it should land in all three SDKs together, so I have added it to the cross-SDK follow-ups with the reasoning above.

@kroqdotdev Understood. Deferring this to a coordinated change across all three SDKs is reasonable. The duplicate-operation risk remains when retries are enabled, but MaxAttempts: 1 avoids it by default.

CodeRabbit on #539:
- A wait's next poll started from the local clock, so a client whose
  clock ran ahead of the server's skipped requests that arrived in the
  gap. It now starts five seconds before the newest request seen, on the
  server's clock; the overlap also catches a capture that committed
  after a newer one, and repeats are skipped by id. The TypeScript and
  Python SDKs still use the local clock; that is a follow-up for both.
- Retry and reconnect delays double up to 30 seconds instead of without
  bound, which overflowed time.Duration with many attempts.
- A stream line or event over 64 MiB ends the connection instead of
  growing the buffer without limit (emails reach 10 MiB before escaping).
- The form and UTF-8 decoders that request building and verification
  both need live once, in internal/webtext, so a signed Twilio request
  and its check cannot drift apart.

From an independent review of #539:
- A Standard Webhooks, Clerk, Resend or forwarding secret that decodes to
  no key ("whsec_", whitespace) is now an error. Before, an HMAC keyed with
  nothing verified, and anyone can compute one. Signing refuses it too, as
  WebCrypto does in the TypeScript SDK.
- Headers in SendOptions replace built ones of the same name in any case,
  instead of adding a second content-type or signature header.
- Subscribe's idle clock pauses while the loop body runs, so a slow
  consumer is not taken for a silent connection.
- Waits overlap their polls by 30 seconds instead of 5: the receiver stamps
  receivedAt before the capture commits, and captures can queue per account.
- JSON bodies write Go integers exactly (past 2^53 too) and float32 values
  with float32 digits; a value that contains itself fails instead of
  overflowing the stack.
- whktest.Endpoint cuts the test name to the 100 characters endpoint names
  allow; Request.Slug carries the endpoint on search results; a
  response-rule condition always sends its value (eq "" needs it); Null on
  Name, ShowEmailExtracts or ForwardEnabled is refused before the API does.
- Request, Endpoint, Usage and the email types marshal to the API's shape,
  so json.Marshal output reads back.
- Missing conformance vectors fail only where WHK_CONFORMANCE_REQUIRED=1
  (this repository's CI and release), not in a user's go test all.
- The forwarding examples handle every error, not only *verify.Error.

An independent review of this PR (a separate agent, given only the code) found the following. Fixed in 151280b:

  • Security: a Standard Webhooks, Clerk, Resend or forwarding secret that decodes to an empty key (whsec_, whitespace) verified any HMAC keyed with nothing. That is now an error, and signing refuses such a key too, as WebCrypto does in the TypeScript SDK. The released Python 0.1.1 has the same bug; that fix goes in a separate PR.
  • Header overrides: headers in SendOptions now replace built ones of the same name in any case. Before, a request could carry both content-type and Content-Type, and which one was sent varied.
  • Stream idle timeout: Subscribe's idle timer pauses while the loop body runs, so a slow consumer no longer looks like a silent connection.
  • Wait overlap: polls now overlap by 30 seconds (it was 5 in 6f26d7f). The receiver stamps receivedAt before the capture commits, and captures can queue per account.
  • JSON bodies:
    • Go integers are written exactly, past 2^53 too.
    • float32 values are written with float32 digits.
    • A value that contains itself fails instead of overflowing the stack.
  • Smaller fixes:
    • whktest.Endpoint cuts test names to the 100 characters that endpoint names allow.
    • Request.Slug carries the endpoint's slug on search results.
    • Response-rule conditions always send value, since eq "" needs it.
    • Null on Name, ShowEmailExtracts or ForwardEnabled is refused in the SDK, before the API refuses it.
    • The models marshal to the API's shape, so json.Marshal output reads back.
  • Conformance tests: they fail on missing vectors only when WHK_CONFORMANCE_REQUIRED=1 is set, which CI and the release workflow do. A user's go test all skips them, where before it failed whenever CI was set.
  • Docs: the forwarding examples now handle every error, not only *verify.Error.

Not changed, because no signature or real payload is affected:

  • lone surrogates and U+2028 when structs are re-serialised;
  • Adyen additionalData given as a string;
  • HexToBytes trimming whitespace the way Go does rather than as JS trim() does.

…540)

* fix(sdk-python): refuse secrets that decode to an empty key (0.1.2)

decode_standard_webhook_secret turned "whsec_" or a whitespace-only
secret into a zero-length HMAC key, and an HMAC keyed with nothing is one
anyone can compute: verify_signature for standard-webhooks, clerk and
resend, and the forwarding checks, accepted such forged signatures. It
now raises ValueError, before any verdict, and request building refuses
the key too, as WebCrypto does in the TypeScript SDK. A secret read from
an empty variable or file is the realistic way to hit it.

Found by an independent review of the Go port (#539), which has the same
fix.

* test(sdk-python): an empty key is reported before the headers are checked

From the review of #540: the tests always sent complete, fresh headers,
so removing the early key check in the forwarding functions went
unnoticed; missing headers or a stale timestamp would then have hidden
the misconfigured secret behind missing_headers or
timestamp_out_of_range. The new cases fail without the early check.

The Go module webhooks.cc/go in packages/sdk-go, ported from the
TypeScript SDK with the same scope as the Python one. Standard library
only; context.Context and time.Duration throughout.

- webhookscc: the client (endpoints, requests with WaitFor, WaitForAll,
  search, replay and a Subscribe stream to range over, emails with
  EmailQuery, ExtractCode and ExtractLink, forwarding secrets), SendTo and
  BuildRequest signing for 34 providers, matchers, CaptureDuring and
  CaptureEmailDuring. Errors match ErrUnauthorized, ErrNotFound,
  ErrRateLimited and ErrTimeout with errors.Is. Sends never follow
  redirects, whatever the caller's http.Client does.
- verify: signature checks for 32 providers and for what webhooks.cc
  forwards, with no client or API key. PayPal certificates are fetched
  from the URL rebuilt from the checked parse, redirects followed by hand.
- whktest: Client and Endpoint helpers for testing.TB.
- Passes signing.json, verify.json, forwarding.json and matchers.json;
  Go takes time.Duration, so durations.json does not apply.

The web app serves the go-import tag at /go?go-get=1 (and below it), with
the subdirectory field Go 1.25 reads; a plain /go still redirects home.
/docs/sdk/go, a Go track on the changelog, the install page and the docs
nav. CI runs gofmt, vet, staticcheck and the race-enabled tests on Go 1.25
and stable, CodeQL analyses Go, and a tag packages/sdk-go/v* checks itself
against Version and has the module proxy fetch it.

The review of the Python fix (#540) found that no test sent incomplete
headers with an empty-key secret. The same test here showed that
RelayedRequest checked its headers first, so a missing header hid the
misconfigured secret behind missing_headers. It now derives the key
first, like the other checks, and the test covers no headers and a stale
timestamp for every forwarding function and Signature.
